How to Embed a Google Form in a Drupal Page

Drupal Editors, here is a great way to embed a Google Form into a Drupal page, like this:
https://staffdevweb.madison.k12.wi.us/node/410

Anyone can fill out the form, and the information they enter is dumped into a Google spreadsheet for you to reference later on.

Here's what you have to do:
1. Create your Google Form using the FireFox browser. Google products like to fight with Internet Explorer.
2. Go to Google Docs and click CREATE. Choose FORM.
3. At the top, make sure all three boxes are unchecked. This way, there won't be complications about having to log in.
4. Create your form.
5. At the top right hand, click MORE ACTIONS and choose EMBED. A table will pop up. Copy the code in the box. You will paste it later on.
6. Now go to your Drupal page. Create a new PAGE.
7. Give it a title and then scroll down until you find INPUT FORMAT.
8. Click the radio button named JAVASCRIPT.
9. Go to the entry area (BODY) and paste your code anywhere. Don't add anything else. Just paste the code.
10. SAVE your page.

In the address bar is your new link and you can share this with anyone you want. Log out of Drupal and log out of Google as well. This way, you can see if you are able fill out the form. Try this in different browsers like IE or Chrome.

New Library Catalog Logos

Library Media Services has a new look to the access for the district library catalogs. All access points from the Novell Application Launcher (NAL) and district Drupal web pages will have the same icon and terminology throughout the district. Equity, consistently and easy identification drove this decision by our district Library Leadership Team. Look for all changes completed by January 9, 2012.

Is your work phone number listed correctly on the staff directory?

Have you checked the staff directory on our website lately? If you have not checked this yet this year you might want to do this.

Type in the name (if you do not know how to spell first or last names exactly try the first letter of each - it will require more letters if there are too many matches)

If you notice that your work phone number is incorrect please click on the link below

The advanced search by Location, Department, or Job is a handy feature that I use daily. See who else is teaching what you teach.

iPad Research & Resources from Apple

People have been asking us for more information about how iPads can be used in classrooms. Here is some research shared with us from our Apple representative and an article that was published yesterday in Edutopia.

Current Article in Edutopia.org - "Teaching and Learning: Using iPads in the Classroom" (10/31/11)

Research data suggest improvement in test scores
This information is included in the attached graph entitled ResearchData1

Chicago Public Schools - Preliminary iPad research
Preliminary research has been gathered on the impact that new technology tools have on students in Chicago Public Schools. Over the last year, CPS schools using iPads have reported increased student motivation, higher quality of work, and a significant increase in student level engagement when being taught in the ares of math, reading, literacy, science, and other subjects. This has been attributed to the broader range of teaching tools available though the iPad and the devices ability to engage student's visual, auditory, and kinesthetic senses. CPS has reported gains as high as 50-60% in Reading, Math and Science. See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpiVeC1Z3yI&sns=em

"Are there any rules that I need to follow when I share a blog or website with staff members and parents?"

Good Question!! We have received email asking this question from several people since announcing Blogger has been turned on.

Student confidentiality policies should dictate every part of our day. The basic premise for protecting student information has not changed. It applies whether we're in a public place conversing with colleagues, it applies to what we would publish in writing in a newspaper or journal, and it applies to web-based resources.

Here is a link to the Draft of the Acceptable Use Policy that was presented to the Board on July 25, 2011. Since it was posted it was brought to Teacher Council for feedback. It is currently being revised by the district's legal council and will go before the board again on November 14.

Please refer to page 6 (sorry the pages are not numbered) "4. An online presence...."

Although the draft indicates that students should not be identified in a public online presence more specifically than first and last initial it is being changed to reflect the current form given at registration (see below for exact language)

One suggestion is to ask your building scheduler or secretary to run an ad hoc report of which students do not have permission to have student work published on the District's Internet-based web sites. They need to look for Withhold Photo-Work Published in Infinite Campus. They should also run a report of Data Directory information withheld to determine which students have selected Withhold Name and Withhold Student Photo, which prevents MMSD and outside media coverage of awards, events, activities or issues of public interest involving your student. Media coverage may involve, but is not necessarily limited to, voice recordings, still photographs, videotaping, information/images posted on the World Wide Web (Internet), or other public disclosure of student directory data such as a student's name, image and age.

Different Ways to Navigate to Google Apps for Education Links

Since we began with Google Apps for Education (GAfE), we have instructed users to reach their desired apps by first going to their mail page. Some apps are easier to reach from the mail page than others and, if it's not mail that they want to use, there is some added overhead in clicking and waiting.
Suppose that you wanted to use Google Maps. You could...
  1. Open your browser.
  2. Type www.mmsd.org into the address bar and hit enter (or click your bookmark).
  3. Wait for the District home page to load.
  4. Click the Staff/Student Gmail button in the left sidebar.
  5. Sign into GAfE
  6. Wait for the mail page to load.
  7. Click More at the top left of the page.
  8. Click  Even more » on the dropdown.
  9. Find Maps on the crowded Google products page (you might have to scroll down)
  10. Click Maps
and you're signed in at the Maps home page.
OR you could...
  1. Open your browser.
  2. Click your bookmark for the Google Apps for Education Links page.
  3. Click Maps.
  4. Click Sign in at the top right of the Maps home page.
  5. Type in your email address (ignore the password) and click the Sign in button.
  6. Sign into GAfE
and you're signed in at the Maps home page.
